For weeks I have been planning to bake a cake for my dad’s birthday. I’ve researched recipes, imagined flavor profiles, and finally decided to make a Gateau type cake.
So this past weekend I layered together my favorite moist chocolate cake recipe (from Nigella Lawson), blackberry buttercream, and diced strawberries tossed in Grand Marnier liqueur. The whole thing was covered in a thin layer of chocolate buttercream and then covered with rich chocolate ganache. Except for the chocolate itself which came from a huge 10 lb. bar of Peter’s Chocolate, every part of the cake was made from scratch and took me two days to complete. The result: a moist and flavorful cake that wasn’t overly sweet. Success!
